Stop Using Your YETI 3000X Until It Is Updated

Check your YETI 3000X model, follow the free firmware repair, verify version 1.9.5, and estimate interim fridge or CPAP backup runtime.

If you have an affected 120V Goal Zero YETI 3000X, stop using it now. Do not use it for backup power until the free firmware repair is installed and verified as version 1.9.5 in the Goal Zero app or 195 on the power station. Its circuit board can overheat and create serious fire and burn hazards, according to the official CPSC recall notice.

The remedy is an app-delivered firmware update, not a refund, replacement station, retailer return, or accessory swap. If you cannot connect, install the update, or verify the final version, keep the station out of service and contact Goal Zero for free installation assistance.

Check your model and firmware status, then enter another battery’s usable capacity and your appliance loads to estimate interim runtime.

CHECK NEEDEDResult: Select your model and firmware status.

Until a matching station is repaired and verified, the safe default is to keep it out of service.

  • Check the nameplate under the lid.
  • Confirm the 120V model, SKU 36400, and UPC 847974007563.
  • Verify 1.9.5 in the app or 195 on the station.
2. Estimate Runtime From a Substitute Battery

Use another battery’s usable capacity—not the recalled YETI’s capacity. Enter measured average watts when possible. No standard fridge or CPAP loads are supplied by the recall notices.

Fridge only
CPAP only
Fridge and CPAP together

Calculation: usable watt-hours ÷ average watts = estimated hours. The tool adds no conversion-loss or reserve assumption, so actual runtime may be shorter.

Static decision: If the recalled station is not verified at firmware 1.9.5 or 195, use another power source. Unknown runtime remains until usable capacity and load figures are entered.

Source: CPSC recall 26-712 and Goal Zero’s YETI 3000X firmware-update recall instructions. Runtime results use only figures entered by the reader.

Take These Four Steps Before Using It Again

1. Stop Using the Power Station

Immediately disconnect the affected YETI 3000X from normal service. Do not wait for overheating, smoke, an error message, or another visible warning. A matching unit is covered even if it has operated normally.

Reduced loads and limited operation are not approved interim measures. Do not open the case, attempt an electrical repair, or improvise a reset. The official remedy must be completed before the station returns to service.

2. Confirm the Exact Model

The recall covers all 120V YETI 3000X power stations with SKU 36400 and UPC 847974007563.

Check the product itself rather than relying only on a receipt or online order description. “YETI 3000X” appears on the cart’s front bar and the bottom front of the station. The nameplate under the lid shows the product name and serial number.

Model YETI 3000X
SKU 36400
UPC 847974007563
Nameplate location Under the lid
Other model markings Cart front bar and station’s bottom front

The station is described as silver and black with yellow handles, a front digital display, and a two-wheeled rolling cart. Appearance is only a recognition aid; use the model, SKU, UPC, and nameplate for confirmation.

The recalled stations were sold from May 2020 through August 2025 for approximately $3,000. Sellers included REI stores, Costco.com, Backcountry.com, Goalzero.com, and other online retailers. Purchase date, seller, and price do not replace the product identifiers or exclude a matching unit.

The notices do not publish an affected serial-number range or manufacturing-date exclusions. If a label is missing, damaged, or inconsistent, keep the unit out of service and ask Goal Zero to determine whether it is covered.

3. Install the Free Firmware Repair

Connect the YETI 3000X to the Goal Zero app over Wi-Fi. Goal Zero recommends home Wi-Fi as the most reliable method.

Once connected, select the firmware-update banner if it appears. If there is no banner, select the station in the app and open Settings > Firmware Update. A missing banner does not establish that the station is unaffected or already repaired.

During installation, the app displays a progress bar and the station displays “upd.” These indicators mean the update is underway; they do not confirm completion.

If the station will not pair, the update is unavailable, or installation stops, keep it out of service. Do not experiment with resets, bypasses, disassembly, or electrical work.

4. Verify Firmware 1.9.5 or 195

Normal use can resume only when installation has finished and one of these completion versions appears:

  • 1.9.5 in the Goal Zero app
  • 195 on the power station

The manufacturer’s recall update instructions document these versions and the installation indicators. The display “upd” means installation is still in progress.

Do not rely on the disappearance of a banner or progress bar. If neither completion number appears, or the app and station disagree, the repair has not been verified. Keep the unit out of service and contact Goal Zero.

A screenshot or photograph of the completed version can help with later support or with tracking multiple units, but it is not a condition of the recall.

Wi-Fi Problems Do Not Exclude a Unit From the Recall

A pairing failure is an installation problem, not evidence that the station falls outside the recall. Confirm that you selected the correct product in the Goal Zero app, consult Goal Zero’s pairing guidance, and contact recall support if the station still does not appear.

If home Wi-Fi is unavailable, Goal Zero documents a hotspot arrangement requiring:

  • A hotspot device operating at 2.4 GHz
  • A separate phone or tablet running the Goal Zero app

The documented arrangement assigns the hotspot and app functions to separate devices. One compatible device can provide the hotspot while a second phone or tablet runs the app.

Check both update routes—the banner and Settings > Firmware Update—if the firmware option appears to be missing. If neither route provides the update, do not treat that result as proof the repair is complete.

The published recall material does not specify a normal update duration, how long a progress bar may remain at one point, a user-performed recovery sequence for an interrupted update, or whether a reset is appropriate. It also does not state whether remote firmware verification is available. Contact Goal Zero rather than inventing recovery steps.

If neither home Wi-Fi nor the two-device hotspot arrangement is practical, request free installation assistance. The recall information does not promise on-site service, transportation, or a particular turnaround time.

Use Another Power Source While the YETI Is Out of Service

Do not substitute reduced or supervised YETI 3000X use for the firmware repair. Use another battery power station, an appropriate UPS, or a properly operated generator while the recalled station remains unavailable.

For a substitute battery, runtime depends on its usable watt-hour capacity and the appliance’s average watt draw. Divide usable watt-hours by average watts to obtain an idealized runtime in hours. Enter measured or manufacturer-provided figures in the checker above; the recall notices do not provide standard fridge or CPAP loads.

A refrigerator’s instantaneous rating may not represent its average draw because its compressor cycles. A CPAP’s consumption can vary with its settings and accessories. Use measured average watts when available. The calculator does not add an efficiency assumption, so its result should not be treated as a guaranteed runtime.

If using a fuel-powered generator, follow the separate guidance for outdoor placement, exhaust direction, alarms, and operation. Generator carbon-monoxide precautions are not a remedy for the YETI recall.

Goal Zero Provides Free Installation Help

Contact Goal Zero if you cannot pair the station, obtain the update, finish installation, or verify the completed firmware.

The primary online route is the Goal Zero recall-support portal. The support site states that a representative will respond to an online form within two business days. That is a response target, not a guaranteed resolution time.

You can also use:

  • Email: support@goalzero.com
  • Phone: 888-794-6250
  • Published phone hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mountain Time

Include the model, SKU, UPC, serial number, current firmware version, app connection status, update-menu status, and any exact error message that appears. Contact support even if part of the label is unreadable.

Goal Zero offers installation assistance at no cost for owners who cannot complete the repair. The published remedy does not require returning the station to REI, Costco, Backcountry, or another seller.

The Recall Covers About 46,200 Stations

CPSC recall 26-712 was announced August 20, 2026 and covers approximately 46,200 YETI 3000X power stations. The circuit board can overheat, creating serious fire and burn hazards.

At the time of the notice, Goal Zero had received four reports involving fire, overheating, smoke, or smoking, with no reported injuries. The absence of reported injuries does not change the stop-use instruction.

The 2024 Yeti Link Recall Is Separate

CPSC announced a different recall in June 2024 for specified Yeti Link Expansion Modules and EC8 cables. That defect involved connections that could overheat and melt. Its remedy uses a hardware replacement kit and return process, not the YETI 3000X firmware update.

The separate CPSC accessory recall covers:

  • Yeti Link module models 98200 and 98210
  • Cable models 98201, 98202, 98203, 98204, 98205, 98206, and 98410

A setup could contain both a recalled power station and a recalled accessory. Completing one remedy does not complete the other.

Answers for Unresolved Recall Cases

Can the YETI 3000X Run Essential Equipment While You Wait?

No. An affected station must remain out of service while pairing, installation, or verification is unresolved. Dependence on it for refrigeration, medical equipment, or other backup loads does not create an approved interim operating mode.

Does the Station Go Back to the Retailer?

Not under the published remedy. The official repair is the free app-based firmware update, with no-cost installation assistance from Goal Zero. The recall does not promise a refund or replacement station.

Does an Outside Purchase Date Exclude the Station?

Not by itself. The May 2020–August 2025 sales period is a recognition aid. The stated scope covers all 120V YETI 3000X stations with SKU 36400 and UPC 847974007563.

What If the Firmware Version Cannot Be Found?

Keep the station out of service and contact Goal Zero. Normal use should resume only after the completed version is shown as 1.9.5 in the app or 195 on the station.
